Janis Boettinger and Geno Schupp
Geno was born and mostly grew up in Florida. He started in the kitchen at an early age, learning the basics of southern cooking at his mother’s knees. In the last 40 years he has traveled extensively, collected cookbooks from around the world, and literally ‘fed’ a passion for the incredible diversity of foods on this planet. In particular, living in Seville, Spain, in 1988-1989, set him on the path to exploring that most exquisite cuisine, with influences stretching back through the Moors of North Africa to the Romans – a path he is still exploring with every opportunity.
Janis was born and raised in northeastern New Jersey, a 20-minute drive from the George Washington Bridge to Manhattan, NYC. Growing up on food derived from box mixes at home, but experiencing wonderful ethnic foods eating out in this culturally diverse area, she was determined to someday prepare and eat real food on a regular basis. The availability of fresh, local ingredients from the year-round, weekly farmers' market in Davis, California, was instrumental in achieving her goal.
Geno and Janis have always been passionate about food, but really came into their own after moving to Logan 17 years ago – they discovered that if you wanted an exquisite meal you either went to the Grapevine or you made it yourself. So they dove into developing their culinary skills with added gusto. Though not trained chefs, they have developed a reputation in the Valley for serving a pretty nice spread – especially Spanish tapas.
